Outsourcing Manufacturing to Focus on Manufactured Product Design
San Diego has a strong sector working with manufactured products across a number of verticals. Come learn about how local electronic product operation, Bliss Lights, has massively scaled their home lighting product from initial product market fit and revenue, and come to the conclusion it was time to outsource their manufacturing operation to focus on their core competency - product design. One of the largest issues that manufactured product organizations encounter is the need to ramp up production while maintaining their competitive edge in product design. We speak with Alan Lee, Founder and President of Blisslights about outsourcing his manufacturing and getting back to his roots.

Growth by Revenue From Bootstrap to A-Round
Our Speakers represent bootstrap success stories!
They will share why their bootstrap ventures succeeded where many have failed,
or get acquired before they could grow.
After each has gotten to growth on revenue, they have now raised capital.

Bootstrapping is often romantized for control with without meddling investors.
Reality is often that a bootstrapped venture is under-capitalized, struggling to compete for customers, partners, employees, and valuation .. not only competing against established businesses, but well-funded startups too.

Crowdfunding, Equity Crowdfunding, Reg A+ IPO for Growth Ventures (Part 1)
Part 1: Reg A+ Panel 1 will focus on what Reg A+ and Title III are and which companies fit each.

Part2: Reg A+ Panel 2 will get into more depth about the methods to use and the how to go about successfully implementing your capital raise.

The First Cardinal Sin of Growth Startups is to be under-capitalized. Thou shalt NOT!

Regulation A+ is a new securities regulation as of June 2015 that allows companies to raise up to $50 million per year from accredited and non-accredited investors.
For Growth Track companies this is another source of Growth Capital enroute to traditional sources such as VCs and traditional IPOs.

Session Speakers are on the forefront of crowdfunding and Reg A+ financing.
Issues to be discussed can include -

Appealing to non accredited investors
How can I  know if my company is a good candidate?
How should I go about marketing my offering?
How much will it cost to RegA+, Title II, Title III ?
How can I decide which type of CF fits my business?
How do I protect my IP/secrets?
What is an accredited investor vs not/main street investor?
How much can I raise?
What is the downside?

Please send Speaker questions to vitalintake@scenicvista.com

Pitch the Journalist
Interacting with journalists is an art, not a science. Getting journalists to cover your company or product can have a profound impact on the adoption of a new technology or growth of a company.

Learn from Jennifer Van Grove, the technology journalist at the San Diego Union Tribune, how she and other journalists do and don't like to be pitched, how she choses topics, what's newsworthy, and what is just plain annoying.

Following an initial presentation and discussion, you will have the opportunity to live pitch Jen with your idea, and she will give you live feedback. This is an extraordinary opportunity to get real constructive feedback from an established tech journalist, versus wondering why a journalist opened your email about your awesome new technology and never responsed.

Think Inclusion; Not Diversity: An Interactive Brain Splatter Session on Making San Diego Tech Succeed in Toto
"Diversity is being invited to the Party; Inclusion is Being Asked to Dance" - Vernã Myers, Esq.,

Diversity is used in almost every conversation regarding tech; not enough women, not enough people of color, not enough of something else. Yet being invited not always means you have a voice at the table. Inclusion is a more powerful word that encapsulates that if you make everyone welcome, you will attract everyone, and they in turn can add more to the conversation.

In this interactive session, we will be writing on the walls, literally; thoughts, ideas, goals, solutions, and a wishlist of what can be. We will have several moderators who will be reading questions from the audience as well as some questions sent in prior to the event. This is an INCLUSIVE event - to truly create an Inclusion Manifesto at the end of the evening, we need all voices. We need your voice. Men and Women. After the session, we will be scribing all the words and phrases into a report on how to make inclusion as common a word at a startup as craft brew and ping pong. What you'll need: an open mind, Sharpies, and a willingness to learn and teach.

Scaling A Marketplace
Effectively scaling a marketplace is a constant balancing act. How do you deal with unpredictable demand? How to scale with suppliers? How do you maintain quality? How do you build & maintain a culture/community? How do you deal with cheaters?

Scaling requires a balance between the two to maintain and improve sales volume and profit margins. Ultimately, the value of a marketplace lies in the number of providers and consumers you serve. As in all businesses, there are two ways to grow, get more customers or sell more to the customers you've got.

Marketing & Sales for Companies with Series A Investment (Chris & Randy) (Part 2 of 2)
Typically the marketing goal of the company with series A investment is to show that you have a marketing strategy that can scale. Your resources are still limited, but you’ll need to spend enough to get statistically significant results.

In this section, we will touch upon the fundamental (brand positioning, benefits, motivation), but more time will be spent in how to build a strong marketing campaign that is measurable. We will discuss how to track and report this data to investors (Key Performance Indicators).
