San Diego Startup Week

Over the last five years, technological advances have dramatically reduced the cost and increased the throughput of DNA sequencing, resulting in the generation of vast amounts of sequence data that must be stored and analyzed to support research in human medicine, microbiomics, plant genomics, bioengineered organisms and compounds, and other areas.

Nowhere has this sea change been more evident than in San Diego’s major life sciences cluster, centered on the Torrey Pines Mesa and surrounds. As a national leader in high-performance computing and storage, the San Diego Supercomputer Center has been sought out for its infrastructure and expertise in storing and analyzing genomic and ancillary data for life sciences research.

This talk will introduce the local biotech startup community to the high-performance computing, storage, and big data resources available from SDSC. Topics to be covered will include systems, software, and data management. The workshop will discuss user support, expertise, and training available from SDSC researchers and staff. The various means for gaining access to the systems and expertise, such as research collaborations and service agreements, will also be covered.
